Cairns embarked on this extraordinary adventure after arriving in Nepal earlier this year, prepared to take on the daunting task of climbing Mount Everest.
When asked about his motivation for undertaking such a formidable and perilous challenge, Cairns explained his relentless pursuit of extreme endeavors. From roller skiing the height of Mount Everest to completing numerous ascents of Ben Nevis and running 100-mile ultras, Cairns has consistently pushed his limits. Climbing Mount Everest represented the pinnacle of his aspirations—a true test of his physical and mental capabilities.
Preparation for this extreme expedition demanded a rigorous and comprehensive approach. Cairns tackled various aspects, including securing the necessary finances, sourcing specialised equipment, and engaging in intensive physical and mental training. His training regimen encompassed 3-hour conditioning sessions, 50km ultra runs, and multiple ascents of Ben Nevis within a remarkable time frame.
